Network Marketing Success Secret: How do you see yourself?
How DO you see yourself?
Many people in our industry are not newcomers. In fact, statistics tell us that the average network marketer has been in at least 4 different companies. Another interesting statistic is that the average heavy hitter network marketer, those that are making $20,000 a month or more, have failed in at least 3 networking opportunities in the past. Then something magical happens, the switch is turned on, and they begin producing results like never before.
The question is, “What produced that change?” Was it a new company? Maybe. Was it a new mentor? Again, maybe. Was it a new product that got them excited enough to push through the failure phase? That may also be a maybe. There can be many maybes in trying to figure out what makes a onetime (or even several time) failure into an “overnight success.”
But, with that said, here is a certain. When you see a network marketing super-star, realize that you are looking at someone that has in one way or another DRAMATICALLY change the way they see themselves. On a deep inner level, they now see themselves as a person that can produce the result they are after.
So the question is, “How do you see yourself?” Do you see yourself as someone that can lead an organization of 10,000 members? Could you see yourself receiving $50,000 a month from network marketing? On an even more basic level, can you see yourself as a magnetic personality that people want to associate with and partner with?
Here is the problem, most people in network marketing will quickly tell you that they are serious about achieving network marketing success, yet deep inside, at their core, they REALLY don’t believe that they can actually create wealth for themselves through network marketing. So in reality, most network marketers are having an internal struggle within themselves. On the one hand, they say they want, and truly desire network marketing success. But on the other hand, they don’t actually believe that they can in fact achieve it. Whenever that conflict shows up, belief will always win.
So, now the key question is, “How do we change the way we see ourselves?” Here is a technique that will catapult your self-image to make it congruent with your network marketing success goals.

If you are a student of success, as I am, you are probably familiar with Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.” What you may not be familiar with is that Mr. Hill faced great opposition when he set out to publish his book. At the time, the industrial revolution was getting on it’s way. When certain businessmen learned about Hill’s upcoming publication, a few of them got together and met with Hill to prevent the masses from learning these secrets they wanted to keep to themselves.
Of course, we can see that Hill went forward with the book anyway, but here is a story that I think may have been taken out of the original manuscript. I say that because I heard an original recording of Hill relating this story firsthand. And while he related the story, he was adamant of the power of this technique. In fact, he made it abundantly clear that this technique changed his beliefs, and how he saw himself in relation to success.
As the story goes, Napoleon Hill met with Andrew Carnegie to interview him for a college newspaper column Hill used to write. After three days spent interviewing Mr. Carnegie, Hill was ask to dedicate 20 years of his life to formulate the philosophy of success. Napoleon accepted the challenge, but was unsure if he could complete the task. Sensing the lack of faith, Mr. Carnegie taught Napoleon Hill a secret technique that he used on himself.
The technique is deceptively simple, yet extremely powerful. Carnegie had Mr. Hill promise that he would, for the next 30 days, without fail, stand in front of his mirror, look into his own eyes, and say “Andrew Carnegie, I, Napoleon Hill, will be more successful than you!” (I’m paraphrasing there, but you get the gist of it.)
At first, Napoleon Hill said he felt like a farce saying those words to himself. The first time he did it; he mumbled it so that his brother, who was sleeping in the next room, wouldn’t hear him. But Mr. Hill kept his promise. He continued doing the technique every morning. Soon, he was looking at himself and saying the words with more power. Something in his mind shifted. He started to believe what he was saying. He started to see himself in an entirely different light. Napoleon Hill continued to use this same technique with all his goals. If he felt as if he doubted himself in anything, he would go back to the mirror and talk to himself, convince himself that he had what it took to make it happen.
If you know anything about Hill’s story, it is one of America’s greatest success story. Hill’s work, to this day, still impacts millions of lives. Go to any book store in North America and you will find Napoleon Hill’s book collection. Although he passed away in the 70’s, he is still a bestselling author, who has changed the world for the better.
So you may be thinking, “Mike, are you saying that I should stand in front of my mirror and talk to myself?” If you lack the belief in yourself to make your network marketing success goals a reality, YES, that’s exactly what I’m saying! And, don’t get me wrong, I know many reading this will not do what they consider such a silly little simple idea. I know that many will let the feelings of awkwardness, the same feeling Hill felt the first few times, stand in the way of their success.
I’m not here to convince you of the power of this technique. I’m simply the messenger here. I’m putting it out there for whoever really wants to change the way they see themselves. Understand that without a change in your self-image, and in what you believe you can do, your results will remain consistent with your beliefs. Want to change the results?… Change the beliefs. Growth always begins from the inside out. Changing actions on the outside will never lead you to success, unless you change the inside first.
I challenge you to challenge yourself. Rediscover your network marketing success goals. Look into yourself and see if you can actually see yourself achieving these goals. Scrutinize your beliefs. If your beliefs don’t support you, consciously align your beliefs with your goals, get to work, and then just stand back and let the magic happen.
Don’t shy away from this challenge. Remember, successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Transform your inner images and beliefs to be in tune with your goals, and things that today you consider a struggle will transform into your success automatically.
